Past Folk events at the Links
Damien O'Kane & Shona Kipling
Date: Tuesday 28 August 2007

Shona Kipling & Damien O'Kane play accordion, guitar and banjo, complemented by the vocals of Damian, with imagination, energy and wit.
They have a deep understanding of traditional music and of where, and how, to take it from here. They were nominated in 2006 for the award of "Best up and coming Artists" at the annual Folk Awards organised by the BBC Radio 2 Folk programme.
Shona and Damien have played together for three years since meeting in Sweden. Shona, aged 20, is from County Durham, whilst Damian, aged 28, is from Coleraine, County Derry in Northern Ireland.
Shona is a student on the Folk and Traditional Music Degree which is run by the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, the first of its kind ever in the UK. Damien became one of the first graduates from the same Degree programme in July, 2005.
An extremely gifted pairing, this instrumental and vocal duo play an array of traditional and self-penned tunes and songs originating and influenced mainly by the Irish tradition.
