The James Keelaghan Band
Date: Tuesday 24 April 2007

James Keelaghan is undoubtedly one of Canada's finest song-writers. He is a former winner of the prestigious Juno Award, which is the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy. In 2006 James Keelaghan was chosen as best singer at the Canadian Folk Awards.
In his appearance at Montrose, James Keelaghan will be accompanied by the fantastic fiddler, Oliver Schroer, and by Hugh McMillan on bass and other guitars.
James Keelaghan studied history at the University of Calgary and his passion for the subject has inspired some of his most celebrated songs. His songs have been recorded by many other performers such as Cry, Cry, Cry.
James Keelaghan possesses a resonant baritone voice, which he uses to perform songs by other writers as well as his own. His voice has been described as everything from sweet and smooth to coffee-rich, to glorious.
The North American Folk Magazine, Dirty Linen, commented – "Keelaghan’s voice is so easy to listen to that the thorns in his lyrics can catch the listeners unawares."
The most recent CD issued by James Keelaghan in 2006 is entitled "A Few Simple Verses". On this album, James signs songs written by other people. The songs are long time favourites of his, including some which his dad used to sign when James was very young. All the songs tell good stories, are lyrically superior and melodically appealing.
