National Youth Jazz Orchestra and Julian Arguelles
Date: Friday 3 September 2010
Scotland's most talented young jazz musicians come to The Links, with renowned saxophone player Julian Arguelles in a performance of two of his works.
Led by Directors Malcolm Edmonstone and Andrew Bain, the ensemble will perform 'Skull View' and 'Escapades' in a concert that is guaranteed to inspire.
NYJOS Collective comprises the most experienced and talented players from The National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland.
Essentially a jazz chamber ensemble, NYJOS Collective is a smaller and more flexible arm of the jazz orchestra. Throughout the year the ensemble gives concerts during residencies at a variety of venues around Scotland.
Directed by Malcolm Edmonstone and Andrew Bain, the ensemble offers the more experienced members of The National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland the opportunity to publicly perform their own arrangements and play a wide variety of compositions.
"(Julian).... is not simply a saxophone improviser of distinctive lyricism and laid back power, he's a composer of tunes with unexpected zigzags to their melodies that are becoming immediately recognisable as his"
John Fordam, Guardian
"(NYJOS Collective) acquitted themselves well in a challenging programme"
Kenny Mathieson, The Scotsman
