The McCalmans
Date: Tuesday 13 April 2010
The Band who are undoubtedly the most popular Folk Band in Scotland are to break up at the end of 2010.
Leader and founder member, Ian McCalman is to retire from live performance. The other members of the Band, Stephen Quigg and Nick Keir, will continue, and build on, their very successful solo careers.
As Scotland on Sunday commented in 2009, "These guys are entertainers, mixing the serious, sentimental and scatological with wit and dry humour. You can hear from the laughter and cheers why they are dubbed the Masters of the Good Night Out".
The McCalmans have released 26 albums, appeared on countless television series and played world tours in every direction. They have headed the bill at the Albert Hall in London and at the smallest folk club, sung in deserts, jungles, Arctic wastes and remote islands.
Their music is Scottish, contemporary and traditional but always different. In recent years they have been voted the “Best Live Act” at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards and also have won the Danish Folk Prize.
