Tanglefoot
Date: Tuesday 20 May 2008
The appearance of the five piece Canadian Band, Tanglefoot at Montrose Folk Club is certain to be one of the highlights of 2008.
The music of Tanglefoot is high energy, original but from the tradition featuring story songs, folk lore, drama, fun and good humour. The Band are renowned for their spectacular harmony singing, slick instrumentals and an abundance of stage presence and wild enthusiasm.
On their last tour of England, Tanglefoot topped the bill on the final Main Stage Concert at Fylde Folk Festival, playing after Kate Rusby and The Eric Bogle Band. They brought the house down with a storming performance which brought two encores from a capacity crowd.
Tanglefoot is made up of five colourful and charismatic performers.
Formerly an all male Band, their newest member is Sandra Swannel, who is a fiddle virtuoso. The other members are Steve Ritchie on driving guitar, Al Parish, who plays flamboyant double bass, Terry Young on mandolin, banjo, guitar and whistle and Bryan Weirmier on piano. All members of the Band sing.
Tanglefoot have six CDs currently available and they are signed to Borealis, which is the premier Folk Label in Canada. They have a thunderously energetic live show and are renowned for their hugely entertaining concerts. The Vancouver Folk Review said that Tanglefoot are "guaranteed to knock you out of whatever slump you are in."
