The MacAlmans
Date: Tuesday 25 March 2008
The current members of The MacAlmans are Ian MacAlman, who plays guitar, Nick Keir who plays guitar, mandolin, mouth organ and whistle and Steven Quigg who plays guitar, bodhran, banjo and mouth organ. All members of the band contribute vocals, as you would expect with a Group renowned for its harmonies and songs.
Nick Keir sings, writes memorable songs and is the main instrumentalist of the band. The youngest member of the band, Steven Quigg, has a remarkably gentle and accurate voice. Ian MacAlman arranges most of the material for the band as well as possessing a very distinctive singing voice. He is also famed for his idiosyncratic and very funny off-the-cuff presentations between the songs at live performances.
The MacAlmans collect and sing traditional and contemporary material from Scotland "and beyond" with unique harmony. It is their constant commitment to humour and entertainment via song which explain why they remain in such great demand.
The MacAlmans have released Twenty-three albums as well as making countless radio and TV appearances, in addition to world tours in every direction. They have headed the bill everywhere from the Albert Hall in London to the smallest of Folk Clubs.
