Charity concert - Jim Reid/Joe Aitken

Date: Friday 5 October 2007

Charity concert - Jim Reid/Joe Aitken
Phil Smith and Madeleine Jack of Montrose Folk Club are raising funds to support the work of the Edinburgh Medical Mission to Palestine.

The current campaign of Edinburgh Medical Mission is to purchase a new operating theatre for the Christian Hospital in Nazareth. In November, Phil and Madeleine will take part in a sponsored week long cycle around many of the prominent sites of the Holy Land.

As part of their fund raising, Montrose Folk Club will be presenting a special charity concert which will feature Jim Reid, Joe Aitken and many other performers.

Jim Reid is probably the most popular folk singer in Angus. Originally the lead singer of the Foundry Bar Band, Jim Reid is known throughout Scotland as the writer and performer of the much loved song based on the poem by Violet Jacob entitled "The Wild Geese". At the 2005 Traditional Music Awards Jim Reid was selected as Folk Singer of the Year.

Joe Aitken from Kirriemuir is The Bothy Ballad King of Scotland. A fantastic entertaining singer, who is often very funny, Joe Aitken regularly wins competitions held by organisations such as the TMSA at Kirriemuir, Keith and other Festivals.
