Classical and Dinner
The Links Hotel Classical Concerts are pretty well unique. Imagine you’ve just had a good dinner, with a glass or two of wine; relaxed and comfortably seated at your table, you shift your chair just a little to get a better view of the platform where top class musicians are about to play for you. They will introduce the items themselves, creating an intimate atmosphere greatly appreciated by artists and audience alike.The internationally-renowned Schubert Ensemble of London, Callino String Quartet and Kungsbacka Piano Trio have all given memorable concerts at the Links.
We have welcomed Scottish-based performers such as pianists Joseph Long from Stonehaven and Christina Lawrie who hails from Broughty Ferry near Dundee, also violinist Vladislav Steinberg currently working in St. Andrews. We are always on the lookout for highly talented young artists studying in Scotland, hoping to spot the stars of tomorrow.
With four concerts a year, we aim to give a balanced variety, so that our audiences may discover new pleasures as well as delighting in the familiar. In addition to the standard chamber music forms our venue is ideally suited to solo and duo performances, sometimes in an unusual combination such as ‘cello and harp.
Newcomers to chamber music need not be put off by the idea that this is something highbrow and elitist. The name simply means ‘room music,’ written for the pleasure of performers among friends at home, and we can guarantee an evening that is unstuffy and enjoyable.
The Links dining room seats a maximum of fifty people so advance reservation is essential. We are proud to operate with no public subsidy whatsoever, but are still able to offer a combined price for dinner and music that is extremely good value for money.
Red-carpet, artist-friendly hospitality is offered to the players while they are at the Links. Because they are staying overnight and do not have to rush away, there is usually a chance to talk to them after the concert. As one audience member recently observed: "it's a very civilised way to spend an evening."
